I've struggled for some time to keep up the inspiration to write new and interesting things and have just fallen short. I have gained so much respect for the folks that can continue to write on a regular basis and have something to actually say. It's very hard work.

I've got chicken roasting in the over, a glass of red wine in my hand and am curled up in front of likely the last fire of the season with my pup. Purchased right in Latham...
I did a lot of running around yesterday morning, trying to be as productive as possible while the weather was nice. I was on an (unsuccessful) hunt for ramps, fearing I'm already too late. There were none to be found at the Troy Farmer's Market so while I was working my way back to Albany, I decided to pop into the Fresh Market as a last ditch effort. &Green Peccadilloeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00669444804031532369noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6028002029995809192.post-54020495407674065952012-04-21T17:48:00.000-04:002012-04-21T17:48:29.019-04:00Blackberry-lemon ShortcakeI've taken quite the hiatus these past few months. I'm not really sure what I've been eating, but it certainly hasn't been anything creative coming out of my kitchen. But Spring has a way of rejuvenating, doesn't it? I've built new garden boxes, the basil and arugula are in, and happily my blueberry bushes are heavy with buds after last year's dud season.
Last week I found Green Peccadilloeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00669444804031532369noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6028002029995809192.post-88506322207649224522012-01-06T15:23:00.000-05:002012-01-06T15:23:47.919-05:00Brag about them and they shall come...Exciting news as reported by Steve Barnes ... Penzey's is coming to town! Granted, I do love ordering from them online because I almost always get an extra little treat in the package, but there's nothing like killing an hour wandering around a Penzey's brick and mortar store.
It's like my Christmas wish came true! I love these because they are so easy, yet pretty enough to look fancy.
This time I made my own french bread toast. And by made my own I mean I bought french bread, hit it with olive oil, and toasted it. You can use any sort of toast or cracker though. I was headed to my friends' place for low key drinks and appetizers on New Year's Eve. These guys appreciate food and can cook, so I wanted to bring my A game. While at the Asian Supermarket, I spied some ribs and the creative juices started floating.
I decided I wanted to make an orange-chile sauce for the ribs. We have a couple of culinary traditions at Christmas that I just can't imagine living without. Christmas Eve is celebrated at my Grandmother's. When my friend's birthday rolled around this past March, she was pregnant. I'd been down to visit in February and she did lament how she missed wine and her beloved bourbon. The 12 days of Christmas are technically after Christmas, and twelve days starting now will just get us to Christmas Eve. But I said this was GP style and I do things my own way. I used my oven dried tomatoes to make a pizza the other night. I picked up Portland Pie Co dough - the beer variety (with Shipyard beer!). I had some thinly sliced steak that I planned to use in some carne asada/rice and beans/tacos type thing tonight. Before I headed off to the gym I whipped up a quick marinade with some chile, lime juice, salt, cumin and oregano. Before...
For all my bragging about speedy meals, I really love laboring over something that takes hours. Taking the time to make a good risotto is one of the most therapeutic things ever. Tonight, I decided to take my first stab at oven-dried tomatoes. I snagged a bunch of plum tomatoes at the market this weekend for a good price. You may recall that my friend the Green Peccadilloeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00669444804031532369noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6028002029995809192.post-18506577558503100432011-10-16T17:32:00.000-04:002011-10-16T17:32:52.370-04:00Navy bean and ham soupLast weekend I grabbed a small ham from Oscar's when I was up north closing up camp. Of course, it would be a mortal sin to let any go to waste, so today I decided to use some in a soup. The nascent idea involved white beans, spinach and the ham, but other than that I had no idea what I was doing. It came out great and I did a little social network bragging about how awesome my Green Peccadilloeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00669444804031532369noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6028002029995809192.post-19021816023807774762011-10-12T18:47:00.000-04:002011-10-12T18:47:40.034-04:00Dried Milk?! No, it's not 1963I've been very neglectful of Green Peccadilloes lately. In all honesty, I've felt fairly uninspired and haven't spent much time in the kitchen, and when I do, it's nothing to write home about. I've also been fighting this change of seasons bug or something for a week or two, which has had my palette all messed up. I mean, who wants to hear about ramen and ice cream for dinner. Lately I've undertaken home improvement projects with new zeal. I guess I'm finally ready to accept this home as my own and I'm taking steps to get it to a state where it feels that way.
